HOLY INNOCENTS' DAY

As you must know, today is the Holy Innocents' Day and people play all kind of jokes and foolishness. However, the most famous tradition in our country says that you have to hang a "llufa" on the friends' and people's back. But, do you know how to make one? It's very easy, you need a newspaper and scissors.
First, take out a page from the newspaper and fold it as an acordion. Look at the picture:

Now, it's time to cut the "llufa".
Look at the pictures...and that's all! When you open the "acordion" you will have a "llufes"' chain. Now you can use it as you want: you can decorate your bedroom or you can cut the chain and you will obtain lots of "llufes".

Remember this tradition is in Spain because different countries around the world have a similar date on the 1st of April and they call it April Fools' Day.

TRADITIONS

Catalonia celebrates ST Esteve today but the rest of Spain doesn't celebrate anything. Besides Catalonia there are more countries which have December 26th as special day: Australia, Britain, New Zealand and Canada. However they don't call St. Esteve's Day as you can imagine, they say today is the Boxing Day!
Rich people gave clothes, food, money... to poor people in the past. These gifts, given in boxes, gave the holiday it's name, "Boxing Day". Today, Boxing Day is spent with family and friends with lots of food and sharing of friendship and love.
To keep the tradition of Boxing Day alive, many businesses, organizations, and families donate their time, services and money to aid Food Banks and provide gifts for the poor, or they may choose to help an individual family that is in need.
Have a happy St. Esteve's Day! and also we can say "Happy Birthday" to Maite, the kindergarten teacher!

BEATLES

In the 1960s, a British group became one of the most famous rock groups of all time. These were the Beatles and today many of their songs are still played on radio stations, and new fans now listen to Beatle hits on MP3 players and I-Pods.

The original members of the group were :

John Winston Lennon from Liverpool
James Paul McCartney from Liverpool
George Harrison from Liverpool
Stuart Sutcliffe from Edinburgh, Scotland

They were not always known as The Beatles. The group first chose the name Johnny and the Moondogs before changing the name of the group to the Silver Beetles. In 1960, they won a spot on a tour of Scotland with Johnny Gentle, and shortly after John Lennon told the group he had dreamed that they were to be called the Beatles with the unique spelling that featured an “a” in the name.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

JACK-O'-LANTERN
In English-speaking countries, 31 October is the day children look forward to, with their costumes ready for their door-to-door trick -or-treating. But it's also very traditional to make a Jack-o'-lantern around this date.

To prepare your pumpkin, first clean and dry it. Cut a small circle around the stem and remove the top. Dig in and remove the seeds and soft flesh from inside the pumpkin, leaving a thick wall of flesh inside the skin. Scrape the inside until you have a firm and fairly smooth surface all round, and a flat base where you will stand a candle - one of those short fat candles is ideal. A large spoon is a good utensil to use inside a pumpkin. You are now ready to carve the face onto the pumpkin. Here you have some examples:

JACK-O'-LANTERN TOAST
You need:
  • sliced white bread
  • slices of cheese
  • a toaster
Take two slices of bread and a slice of cheese for them to make a sandwich. Previosly cut out eyes and a mouth in one of the slices. Toast the sandwiches and eat them while still warm. Delicious!

GREETINGS FROM LIVERPOOL

Hi children, how is your summer going?
By the way, last 14th of June we were talking about Beatles. Do you remember? if you don't, you can listen to another time the song we were working those days.
Today I've been very lucky 'cause I have visited the Beatles' Museum in Liverpool and it came to my mind that famous song (Yellow submarine).
So, I'm happy I can share these pictures with you! :D
