Are you ready for the Innocents' Day?

We will celebrate the Holy Innocents' Day tomorrow. Some people will play all kind of jokes and foolishness. However, the most famous tradition in our country says that you have to hang a "llufa" on the friends' and people's back. But, do you know how to make one? It's very easy, you need a newspaper and scissors.
First, take out a page from the newspaper and fold it as an acordion. Look at the picture:

Now, it's time to cut the "llufa".
Look at the pictures...and that's all! When you open the "acordion" you will have a "llufes"' chain. Now you can use it as you want: you can decorate your bedroom or you can cut the chain and you will obtain lots of "llufes".

Remember this tradition is in Spain because different countries around the world have a similar date on the 1st of April and they call it April Fools' Day.

British life and culture

A journalist is someone who investigates, collects or presents information. This can be presented through newspapeers, magazines, radio, television and the internet. Look at this video. It deeps into British life and culture.

When we talk about the written press in Britain there are some differences between a Tabloid and a Broadsheet, aren't they?
What do you think about having TV in the bedroom?

Good manners

As a teacher, one of the most important things you can do is lead by example. There’s no point in asking our students to be helpful and polite when we don’t hold the door open for others or we don’t say “Please” and “Thank you.” Being nice, kind and fair is something most of us do naturally (because someone else, years ago, taught us to do it!) but it’s important to remember, especially for teachers of young children, that our students are watching our every move. They are learning important lessons about how the world works by what they see.

Besides that, they learn from the lessons we teach in the English lessons. So, why don't we introduce fair poems? This is one of the most favourite activities I like to work with children. Poems and chants help kids with phonics but also they make them be aware about the importance of manners and empathy.
Here you have two examples:

Please and thank you
are magic words
we need to say
very often, every day.

Please and thank you
are useful words
to help you be polite
and make people feel alright.

Please and thank you
are the best words
to say people
with a big bright smile!

IT'S JUST FINE

It's fine to be
happy or sad.
It's fine to be
brave or scared.
It's fine to have
short or long hair.
It's fine to play
or just watch.

It's fine to be alone
or want company.
It's fine to be thin
or fat.
It's fine to wear jeans
or a skirt.

It's fine to dance
or sit down.
It's just fine
to be
what you
want to be!

150 years of Alice

Tomorrow, November 26th, 2015 will be an important day. We will celebrate the first publication of Alice in Wonderland. The UK publisher Macmillan published the first edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. If you remember, it was written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, signed with Lewis Carroll.
For that important celebration I want to link you an amazing blog by Claudi Mans
He has an important collection of Alice in different languages and along this year he is doing different publications of his collection.
I highly recommend it to you. It's worthy!
At the same time, we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day. This important day is celebrated the last Thursday of November so let me say to all of you
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Worthy to have a look

I am five days away from finishing an amazing training course on line about the eTwinning network, but do you know what it is? eTwinning is the community for schools in Europe. It offers a platform for staff working in a school in one of the European countries involved to communicate, collaborate, develop, share and feel and be part of an excellent community in Europe.

Thanks to this course I have learned some new tools to use in the projects. Also I learnt that collaboration is the aim of this network. Partners will share their publications in a common platform: the eTwinSpace! It's amazing and students can use it as a way of sharing information, communicate and upload different materials.
Also, I'm very proud of me because I have my own profile inside the web
Step by step ;D

Apps

Dear all,
some families ask me about apps that they can download for their kids.
There are thousands of them at Apple app store and Google Play, and a growing number of them are going on . These apps are very friendly and they have an attractive look.
For children, apps encourage the practice of skills, grammar and vocabulary through activities which are attractive for students. Among them, the ones offered by the British Council can be highly recommended, especially LearnEnglish Grammar and LearnEnglishPodcast for real English.
