European Day of Languages

Hi there, this is the second week at school and children are happy to be in contact with friends and to celebrate their friendship! Hooray for them! 

Also, this week is important because it finishes celebrating the European Day of Languages on September 26th. Because of that, I have prepared this breakout about languages in Europe. They are in a trouble and they need your help. Do you want to help them? Try it. You can do it!!

European Day of Languages

We celebrate the European Day of Languages today! Each year I do different actions to engage my students with languages. This time, I want to make them looking for different English messages  in the city we live. As examples, here you have some of them:

Those messages make English a useful language for understanding what they want to communicate us. If you do not pay attention to them you are losing information. So, be aware and do not lose what English offers to you in the city you live, wherever it is.

today is the DAY! I was looking forward to celebrating this important day because children and I are excited to participate in the tongue twister competition. We have prepared some presents for the winners and also an awesome certificate. Here you have it:

Tongue Twisters

Hi there,

a tongue twister competition can be an excellent activity to engage children and help them to improve their pronuntiation and having fun at the same time. It's an activity that can be done in all the levels . Along the week we will practise them in our English lessons. 

Methodology: I will pronounce first very slowly to make children familiarise the sounds. After that, we will work on their meaning, making sure that students understand them. Finally, all together we will repeat each of them as many times as we need.

By the end of the week, we will play and repeat them with cards: picking cards by turns and repeating them without making mistakes. If the student say the tongue twister in the card correctly, this student will keep the card with him/her. If not, the card will be tidied at the bottom of the deck of cards.

Engage language learning!

A lot of adults regret not having learned another language different to the mother tongue or the foreign language learnt at school. Personally, I think that language teachers have the advantage of encouraging children learning languages. We have many resources and technology to engage children in a flash, but specially in September, at the beginning of the school year, we have the opportunity to inspire them and get them excited about learning languages planning activities to celebrate the European Day of languages (September 26th). So, if you are a teacher and you want to plan some activities for that celebration, here you have some resources from TES.

Learning languages is useful!

Some children learn more than one language from birth or from a very young age. In fact, we learn three languages at school. This is very important for us because we can communicate with different people. If you remember, we have received different students from Europe in our school: Zekiye from Turkey, Steven from Ireland, Shana from Finland, Krista from Poland, Celia from England and also Martha from America. We could speak with them because we used a common language, English.

Besides that, you can learn more cultures through languages!

Hi you all! It's been a very hard day, Today.  

We have enjoyed with different activities: European Countries, how to get to those Countries, european languages and also guessing some messages on your t-shirts!

 Some of them have funny writings ! Most of them in English, but we could find some in French, in Spanish, in Catalan, one in Irish and one in Deutsch! 

We are making a movie, so...Do NOT forget to take some time tomorrow to connect with this English bloc.
